Shooting a subject on a background of the same color can be tricky. You have to really watch your lighting so you can use your highlights and shadows to define your subject. Otherwise it’ll just look flat or blend too much. Our group decided to do a lay-flat image. Lay flats are really popular especially on Instagram.

I think we spent most of our time setting up the wire flowers. Lay flats are all about the set up and how you use your space. The flowers kept falling and sliding even with tape on them! We ended up having to use the table and wrap the wire around the corner and then have the wire come back up to give it another leg of support so it would stop falling over. We used a sweatshirt as our backdrop because it was the perfect color and the fabric gives it a warm authentic feel to it. As you can see in the image above, we weren’t sure where exactly to put the light. If we had it too far away from the subject, our shadows were too harsh and distracting. We ended  up having to go right over head with our light. Because our flowers weren’t exaclty straight up, it actually helped because it gave us a small shadow on each of the flowers. Shows depth and interest.  I’m not much of a product photographer, but I think this turned out.
